Community Singing Groups

Here you will find information on all the community singing groups that Maria runs in County Clare and online.  These groups are for everyone in the community and you are welcome whether you are a confident singer or you were thrown out of the school choir and haven't dared sing since.

In each group we sing a variety of harmony songs which are both beautiful and achievable even for beginner singers.

Contact Maria to book or ask any questions.

Ennis Evening Group

Location - Fahy Hall, Roslevan, Ennis

Cost - €12 per session.  Concessions of €8 and €10 available on request

WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?

This term we will be focusing on an original story called The Singers' Apprentice , written by Maria Wood, and performing this in mid December 2022.  It will be a narrated story with songs that have been written by Maria Wood.  The story will focus on the themes of ecology, community and why we really need to sing.

One of the aims of the performance will be to provide an outlet for every singer, regardless of ability.  The style of singing will be very natural and will focus on heart rather than perfection.  We will be unpicking our ideas of what good singing is by developing our authentic voices and using them as a force for healing, growth and community connection.

We will also discuss how we can learn and connect with the natural world around us as we practice.  How can we connect with our own inherent wisdom?

We will write one new song to perform as part of the story.

Who can join?

FAQs

  • Do I need to be able to read music?  No - all songs are taught by ear

  • Do I need to have a good voice? No - you do need to be able to listen and to try to connect to the group. This skill is way more important than 'good' singing.
